It's hard to know what to think of this. If you're required to be at work for eight hours and someone makes sure you are, that's just how jobs often work. If you have times when you can't be there, someone may ask questions. Again, just how jobs work. Not sure how or why your manager's family situation comes into play in this.
I think there has to be more to it. Maybe not with the OP but maybe the team has problems staying the full 8 hours.
you look for a new job and leave once you secured the offer.
I've worked in environments like this before and people did not respect my boundaries. I think it's time you start looking for something else, where you are respected more!

I definitely think you should talk to them about the problem you are having and if nothing changes you should look for another job. It’s not fair for them to micromanage you when you are doing the best you can do.
Micro managing is terrible. I am wonder though is there more to this story? Do you have a history of leaving early? If not maybe have a sit down conversation. Does the rest of the company work a full 8? we have to be at work for 10 hours so that’s why i do.
