My parents bought their house for $80K in 1985. It's worth $800K now. I make more than they did adjusted for inflation, but can't afford anything they could. The same house, different generation, impossible math. How do you compete with an economy that closed the door behind your parents?

Accept it for what it is. Our generation is screwed. Hardly any of us will be able to afford a home the way our parents did.

Yeah, it’s wild. Feels like we’re running a race that’s already finished before we even started.

There is no competing. I have accepted that I will be renting forever. Which, given how fast the cost of rent is rising, may mean giving up my studio for having roommates in the not so distant future. It's unfortunate that there is no opportunity left for people.

Yeah..it’s rough, no matter how hard we work, our parents’ opportunities just aren’t there anymore.

You don’t. Sadly, you just don’t. I think they said the average age of a first time homebuyer now is in their 40s. That means you’ll be paying off your mortgage for the rest of your life. You will die not fully owning your house. I don’t even find it worth it to buy a house anymore.

Even making more than our parents did doesn’t get us close to what they had. Feels like the system is just stacked against us.

In the past this has made me really depressed. I've decided to just be positive about the things I do have, and making my little apartment my own. Obviously it still hurts, but I try my best to adjust my thinking.

3L with mostly A’s and B’s. I am having the worst luck trying to find work for after school and my experience working with lawyers has left me completely dejected. I cannot get an interview to save my life. I was so excited to get an externship summer after 2L with a small business and IP firm only to get yelled at on the phone a few times for not doing an assignment correctly. Mind you, I was working FOR FREE as it was a school connected externship. That made me never want to work in the law.
