You'll have to start from the bottom rung because truly knowing how the post pipeline works/knowing the terminology is vital and you won't be able to learn it from a book because every job is different.
Have you tried The Mill? I used to work there as an artist, it's really big so there's room to learn a lot as a production coordinator. Three month trial period on an hourly rate then if you're hired you're bumped to salary. It's really cliquey though so you won't get put on cool jobs if you don't schmooze properly/blow coke with the right people.
NYC or??
@OP Godspeed. Keep us posted as things progress. I highly recommend sacrificing a small to medium sized mamal to "the powers that be" . Nothing like a good old fashioned blood sacrifice to open some doors.
I’d head to LinkedIn and search "Method recruiter” or “MPC recruiter” and try to reach out to those people directly - OR search the word “scheduler” instead of recruiter.
Coming from personal experience, try to get in at a big company first - more opportunity to get in and more opportunity to learn from a variety of different people with different approaches. You’d start at the bottom but if you can shine bright (it's not too hard, there are surprisingly a lot of duds that are weeded out at this stage), you’ll be moved up from the worst positions quickly. Sit with coordinators, producers, EPs, flame artists, CG artists and ask them questions constantly - there’s just SO much to learn and they’re the best teachers. The VFX pipeline is significantly more in depth and complex than most people think!! It’s not a quick one to dive into.
Ideas anyone?
NYC - oops forgot to put that in the post!
Places to look:
Big: MPC, Method, Framestore, Technicolor (they own MPC & The Mill)
Smaller: Art Jail, Nice Shoes, Buck, The Artery, Hornet, Nathan Love, Phosphene, Fuse, Shade
There's also The Molecule if you're desperate and ok with being miserable (they have a "no phone" policy and terrible culture.)
This is helpful. I don’t mind starting at the bottom!
I tried the Mill and Fuse out of that list. Sent letters and resumes- it would be helpful if I could send to someone who will look. I got nosey and tried to find out on places I went- but to no avail so I’m asking around what else I can do. I’ll try the other places
I applied to production Coordinator, associate, assistant, even office manager at a couple production houses to get in- oh and studio manager too at some photo houses.
Oh any the artery- I forgot. They hit me up a couple times to freelance but didn’t get the budget
Just sent another resume to the Mill- but wasn’t sure where to send it- went to Christina ?
Producer 2 thanks so much for taking a few minutes to post this! It’s so hard to know if I’m on the right track.
