My partner is currently looking for a new job and is going through lots of interviews. Does anyone have any 'red flags' they wouldn't mind sharing that he should look out for?

Some of the red flags are fairly obvious, like if the company seems disorganized or the interviewer seems unprepared and hasn't read someone's resume. If the interview process seems to have no end, and the rounds of interviews just keep going, that can indicate a broken system and indecisiveness. And something to watch for would be vague or inconsistent descriptions of the role and job responsibilities. It's always best to try to get a clear picture of what exactly the job will look like. And, it almost goes without saying, if someone says the organization is like a family, that means work life balance will likely be a problem.

That’s really interesting to hear about the being like a family, as I always thought that but thought I was being silly !

If they are making you do homework (create a business plan for this product), please ask for compensation.

There are also a few bowls that can really give you pointers on the interview process.

Wow, do some places really do that?!

Amazing, I will have a look into that. Thank you

I always like to get some insight from current employees. If I ever go on-site to interviews, I'll just watch how employees interact and if they seem overall laidback or stressed, etc. You can learn a lot just by observing.

That’s a really great idea actually. Even just watching for a few minutes can show it all

Coming away from an interview more confused than before it. I had an interview forever ago, and they had such a mixed bag of questions, explanations of my role that contradicted what I was told. Benefit of the doubt, the interviewer might have just been having a rough day, but worth looking into more before going along.

That’s really interesting actually, hard to know thought whether it was having a bad day or actually just what they are like

I’ve learned pretty much any listing asking for “self-starters” is a sales job in disguise

Oh really?? That’s actually really useful to look out for

I've noticed that the engineers keep their mouths shut whenever they're asked for feedback, but when they're alone, they talk about how much they wish they could change management.

Why is that?
