My Supervisor said her mom told her she received mail that is requesting her to do jury duty--but, its in a DIFFERENT STATE THAN THE ONE SHE CURRENTLY LIVES IN. Is that something the District or Circuit Court can do?? It just sounds like yet another lie that she has made up to get out of doing work (like always). Has anyone ever experienced this?

How is a Partner’s sales bonus at your firm calculated? Also, what if multiple Partners have connections at the same client when a sale is made? How is the bonus fairly distributed?

Would this be a bad time to switch positions for the purposes of career progression and higher compensation? My current position seems stable but no room for growth and also a disorganized mess, not a very mature legal department. On one hand I’m the only that knows what they’re doing on the other hand i would like to go somewhere where I can learn more how a mature legal department should operate within a legally savvy business. But seems like a risky move in this economic climate?

How common is it for first year associates to spin wheels? In my 4th month, I spent 6 hours doing a return with 3 K-1 royalties, 2 Schedule C with few expenses, and the usual 1099-DIV/INT, including consolidated 1099. Budgeted time was 5 hours total. I have yet to get my return reviewed.

Career dev advice needed. Being offered a promotion (would be reporting to my current skip and managing/growing a team). The role is global subsidiary management/governance. But the work does not appeal to me, I’ve been doing some of it and it’s so much admin and people management. I’m not practicing law at all. Love my current IC role and manager, get to work on strategic transactions and closer to the business. If my goal is head of corp legal one day, should I suck it up and go for it? Thnx!

Got a 30% salary bump, via an offer for Senior Consultant S&O from Deloitte. Currently underpaid at EY Advisory. I'm MBA and this year is my promotion year at EY for Manager. What to do? Get demoted and move to D? Or counter at EY? Even if EY matches my salary, and promote me to Manager, I will be an EY Manager with a Deloitte SC salary, and probably won't be able to go to D in the future. What do you think? I have built up a good relationship with my Partner and SMs at EY though.
