Whatever symptoms you are probably experiencing now will become more severe, you’ll start to withdraw from friends and family, and some people get to a point where they are hospitalized. Very serious, and they are absolutely correct, your body will get to the point where it forces you to take the time.
I never even considered how serious it could get. Ty.
Physical symptoms include heart palpitations, hair loss, flakey skin. Mental include inability to feel joy, low energy, lack of focus and more. Good times. There is only so much you can treat the symptoms. I’d add that it’s usually not just high activity that leads to burnout. It’s a misalignment with values and how you spend your time or systemic issues in the workplace.
I think the work politics stress me the most
Yes take the time please
This is exactly what happened to me at my last role. I ended up burning out and having to go on FMLA for 12 weeks. Your therapist is right, your body will force you to take time off eventually.
I found out what it was like to be truly happy when I took time off after being burnt out. It allowed me to think clearly and it changed the way I thought about my work. I no longer have panic attacks as a result of the constant, urgent demands as I have been able to set boundaries. I could never have done this had it not been for taking time off, working with a therapist to change my thought process, and value myself. Spending time outside, alone with my thoughts was a game changer.
I think I am going to take time off
My friends and family didn't want to be around me because of how negative and temperamental I had become. I found no joy in anything. Ended up taking 3 months off.
