For those of you that currently pay 30% of gross income towards rent, do you still have money to save? I’m moving to NYC and am used to paying only 15%. Pay is now 125k base so I’m looking for apartments around 2800-3k

30% of gross income on rent makes no sense to me.. especially because % would be higher if your denominator is income after tax instead of gross income. Anyways, it’s personal choice after all.

Just the reality of NYC rent☹️

NYC native here.

Go to the New York City bowl and raise this question.

It comes down to so many factors (how close do you want to be for work? Is there a wfh situation - 3 days at work and 2 days at home? What do you prioritize? A night life or will you be working until the early morning hours on some projects?)

There are definitely cheaper places outside of Manhattan that may be more spacious and peaceful.. but you have to look for it.

I would stay away from NY, maybe live in jersey.
NY is overpriced, and from your previous rent I can sense that not only your rent is going higher but the rest of the expenses.
Try to get 30% of the cash for rent not the gross

I recently joined citi. I have been given choice for to select superannuation as 13% of BS or 12500/- monthly or zero.

This is one time selection and not reversible.

I am already investing 1.5 lakh in 80C through SIP and EPF.

I need more detail about superannuation and is it beneficial or not?

Also is there any retirement age in IT field 🤔 (or in citi)?

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

I’ve noticed that HR, when explaining why a candidate didn’t get the job, tend to lean on “You’re great, but we had candidates with more experience in [skill relevant to the job].” I do believe this is true in some cases, but it can’t possibly be for all of them.

HR folks — what feedback have you obscured by offering that line instead?

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??
