Need advice. My job offer was rescinded two days after I gave my current insurance job verbal notice (not written). Now I'm stuck with nothing else lined up, and my current employer thinks I'm leaving. Is it possible to retract my resignation? I don't even like working here, but I'm living paycheck to paycheck and terrified of unemployment. How would you even approach asking to stay?

I would just have a conversation and say “after further consideration I realized I really do value my relationships and the work we do here and would like to stay with the company”. They will probably go to HR and check but you’re probably fine if you are in good standing with your leader. Be prepared to ask why you put in a notice bc they may ask.

I know it’s scary, especially when you don’t want to be unemployed. I’ve asked to retract a resignation before, and I just explained what happened. The key was making sure they knew I was committed to doing my best while I was still there. It felt awkward, but it worked out. At the very least, it shows you care about the job and want to stay.

You may still be able to retract your resignation, especially if you haven’t formally signed or submitted a written notice yet. It’s worth having an honest conversation with your employer and explaining the situation. Be transparent that the job offer fell through unexpectedly, and you need to stay due to financial concerns. While it’s uncomfortable, approaching them with humility and explaining that you're in a bind could lead to them being more understanding. Your financial security is important, so don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance during this transition.

I strongly agree with A1. I put in a verbal notice right before Covid hit and I had every intention of not only leaving the job, but leaving the state. After lockdown started, I went back and told them I needed to stay put for the indefinite future. They were not only understanding but relieved, because it's way cheaper and easier to keep a trained employee than hire and train a new person.

Wow, I’m really sorry that happened to you—that’s such a tough spot to be in, especially after making a big decision like giving notice. That kind of setback can shake your confidence.

If you’re open to something different, I’m working with AO Globe Life now. It’s fully remote, flexible, and we’re bringing on people who are ready for a fresh start. We help you get licensed and trained, and the support here is solid.

Happy to share more if you’re curious—just shoot me a message anytime!

Totally understand where you’re coming from—sometimes you just have to do what you need to in the moment. But it sucks when it feels like there are no real options, especially when you know you’re worth more.

If you’re open to something outside the traditional path, I’m working with AO Globe Life—it’s fully remote, we help you get licensed and trained, and there’s real potential to earn and grow without taking a step backward.

No pressure at all, but if you’re curious, I’d be happy to share more. You deserve more than just settling.

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. Made it to final rounds for Bain and Kearney but in the end didn’t get an offer. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
