No org chart. No playbook. No clarity on who owns what.
You start a new role and spend your first few weeks piecing together context like a corporate archaeologist.
Why do so many companies treat onboarding as an afterthought?
What’s one thing that made your onboarding feel intentional and empowering?

One of my peers told me early on that this was a “learn to fish” type of place. Startup vibes. He explained people would help me, but that I would do well if I could take initiative and do a lot of independent work. He was right. Multiple promotions, raises, and I’m very well respected and appreciated more than any other place I’ve worked.

That being said…this was a major adjustment for me, having come from a corporate environment with a lot of clear (albeit inefficient) structure.

I think it’s all in how it’s presented and how you choose to receive it. I took it as an opportunity to chart my own course.

Any more suggestions with help

Just finished my first year in audit. Recruiter reached out to me for a role with a 30% bump in salary. Total comp included it gets closer to 45%. I actually enjoyed my first year and especially being done with busy season now feeling pretty good. Not at all actively looking to leave, but just looking for advice on if I would be crazy for not pursuing an opportunity for so much more money at least a little further. Really what I care about is my long term career more than anything

Today I learned a new thing. One candidate was referred by a colleague of mine in the system. He got selected and offer letter rolled out.

When he checked the system he realized the referral was not taken and the background system captured it as direct hire.

So my friend is not going to get any referral incentive.

Wondering if anyone else faced the same issue?
