Fine. It’s about learning balance. Take off the pedals and let them start walking on the bike first then slow run then lifting their feet and finally adding the pedals back on. Good luck!
No previous bike experience at all? I would think by 9 a mountain bike would be fine but my 4 year old got a bike with training wheels for her birthday too
Yes, mountain bikes can be a good choice. It does depend on sitting position (upright is better). Also, can your child easily reach the ground with their feet? This can give a novice rider a little more confidence and control. Just don’t go on technical mountain bikes trails without good coaching and skill development. Mountain bikes are great for gravel paths and ok (bit slow) on roads. They get dangerously slippery on wet asphalt though.
Thanks! We’re just planning to use it in local parks that are level while he’s learning to ride!
Totally fine once they learn to ride they will be flying it. For anyone with younger kids def get a balance bike… it is the easiest way to learn. Good luck! Buy a helmet !!!
