I remember how much my mind needed retraining. I knew how to do my job, but I found myself making mistakes and forgetting things and that truly rattled me. My advice is, this too shall pass and be kind and gracious to yourself. I echo the comment about finding a place where you feel supported.
It is key to find a place that you feel comfortable with and supported. Base your schedule on all the WTF’s and busy day and not the days your not working. Co parenting with a daycare means lots of positive communication and understanding of your work schedule. Also your child will want routine and a schedule too. For them to bond they need also need a committed schedule.
I moved to Austin from la last year and was amazed to find that co-working spaces with childcare are a thing (they also offer drop in care.) Now I wonder how they don’t exist everywhere? Maybe an entrepreneurial idea;)
I have had to employ a full time nanny. Unfortunately given how unpredictable my schedule is I can’t guarantee I can get to a daycare by 6p to pick up the kid. There are a few daycares in nyc that offer 6:30/7p pickups but ideally the kid is winding down/in bed by then.
