That’s absolutely wild. I can’t blame you for feeling completely blindsided and suspicious. Getting promoted and then laid off just weeks later? That’s not just unusual-it’s downright bizarre and would make anyone question what’s really going on behind the scenes. You’re not overthinking it; this scenario doesn’t add up at all, and honestly sounds like a terrible way for a company to handle things.
Honestly, I'm sure your emotions are running high right now, and I don't blame you, but logically that doesn't make a ton of sense. I feel like it would've been easier to justify letting you go if they hadn't just spent the last couple of months promoting you. I would imagine the layoff has more to do with finances and less to do with you as a person or a professional. Either way, I'm really sorry you're going through this.
I think you're overthinking this. When people get laid off it's usually not even related to them or to anything they've done as individuals. Word came down from upstairs to lay people off and as you were new in your job that could have been all it took. Or there could have been some other determining factor. Thinking they installed you in a job to get rid of you and not hurt your feelings gives them too much credit for Machiavellian maneuvering. It's more likely that someone looked at a spreadsheet and said get rid of this many people and you just got caught up in it.
Or there was a directive to cut at that level and they didn’t want to cut any existing managers?
