One of my friends joined a company without receiving an official offer or appointment letter. HR said, “We’ll send it later.”

Later never came.

When salary issues and role changes started, there was no written proof of what was promised. No documentation. No protection.

Lesson learned:
If it’s not in writing, it doesn’t exist. Thoughts? Have you or anyone you know experienced this?

Oof. I've never been burned like this before and have a ton of sympathy for your friend. Sucks when acting in good faith gets used against you. "Lesson learned: If it’s not in writing, it doesn’t exist." This is absolutely, 100% true. Wish they didn't have to learn the lesson this way, but at least it's guaranteed to stick.

like

Yeah, it’s a brutal way to learn it, but you’re right; it sticks forever. My friend is kicking themselves now, but at least they’ll never make that mistake again. I’ve started treating every verbal “yeah, we’ll take care of that” like it’s smoke until it’s actually in the offer letter or contract. No exceptions.
It’s wild how common this is though. People assume good faith goes both ways, but companies (or even some individuals) will absolutely memory-hole a promise if it suits them. Have you ever had something like this happen to you, or narrowly avoided it?

if it wasn’t documented it was never done.

Hell yes. That phrase is tattooed on every nurse’s brain for a reason. “If it wasn’t documented, it wasn’t done” isn’t just a saying; it’s survival.

Who takes a job without an offer letter?

watch out for all kinds of agreements at work. Put that in an email or im not leaving and get the PTO approved before you clock out when being cut for low census! There should be a sheet that documents who gets sent home and the date so its not the same person each week. We are supposed to use PTO to cover those days. Also make note how many agency nurses are remaining while you get sent home. Im just learning that Nursing Management are all narcissists relationships. Im hoping to be wrong but sadly proven right.

Isn't it documented on an assignment sheet or anythng?

I recently experienced this! I was hired on the spot during the interview was told I would hear from the recruiter in a couple of days . It has been a week Friday and nothing .. I sent a follow up email and silence..😤

I have a question. Can a nurse take her lunch break in her car if he/ she wants to?

Get it in writing

If India r get the offer letter I would have never gotten my job, the hr person left in the middle of my hire but I had the offer letter and so here I am
