Or eulogies. It’s hard work, it’s emotionally taxing, and it’s far more privileged and meaningful than anything we do in the office.

I just realized that my siblings and I didn’t write obituaries for our parents… (to be fair, we lost them within a 4 month period 27 years ago…)

My cousin once asked me to write their vows for them. I hadn't seen or spoken to them in 10-15y, we barely got along, and I had never met their kids or partner. I thought it would be funny, so said I would and then never got invited to the wedding. I was right, I laughed. Condolences.

Me too.

Let's say I can't get a product or marketing job in tech, but I could get in via sales or customer success. Does working in those roles pigeonhole you, or is it easy to switch later? If you take a job as a customer success mgr for ads, or as a partnership mgr for learning solutions for industry X, are you going to get stuck in those products (ads, learning solutions), roles (CS, sales/partnerships), or target industry (X)?

Anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year?

So, you’ve reached the stage of your career where you care more about cashing a fat paycheck than making “creative ads”. You’d rather have the resources and free time to fulfill your creative itch outside of work than try to sell the next big idea to an 28 year old marketing manager with an annual budget of 150k. How do you make the absolute most money as a copywriter while still working a 9-5? Asking for... a... friend?

Am I particularly uptight, or is writing meant to be done alone, without a partner talking to you? With past partners, we chat through script notes and then I go off to execute. Current partner likes to sit and chat as I write. To me, writing is crafting a conversation. So I can’t talk to you and simultaneously talk to this audience. Of course I can just say “I’m gonna go write.” But since we’re both CD level, I’m like…is this his first rodeo? Maybe other writers are different though.
