People don’t understand what editors do. We sit alone for long periods and edits come out. To many, the conclusion is that we don’t do much, if anything at all. So editor jobs get combined with unrelated responsibilities. Producer. Shooter. And now… (for $70k) marketing manager?

Thinking about making the jump from senior level in-house to freelance. 12+ years experience. Shoot, edit, color, after effects, mix, etc. What kind of day rate could I expect in Mpls or Chi?

Tangentially, has anyone had an invoice with 30-day terms kicked back for revisions because the client's terms are longer, or do they just ignore what you've stipulated?

EDITORS.. do you find that you work weekends on EVERY SINGLE JOB when your cutting for the first screening? No matter what the job is like, no matter how complicated or not, no matter the ship date, I find that I have to work weekends to accommodate the first screening.

Are post-houses ramping back to in-person? I’m freelance and so far have had a couple in-person sessions but everything else has still been remote. I’m in NYC.

Are y’all raising rates to account for inflation? Am I stupid if I haven’t yet?

Roll call. How much experience? Do you staff in a boutique? An agency? Freelance? If freelance, do you usually work in agency studios, prodcos...? Do you bring on a post producer to help on big jobs?

What would you do in this situation? I signed a schedule A for one weeks work at Company A for $600 per day and then company B offered me 2 weeks work at $800 per day.

Anyone still using avid on commercials? In NY it seems to be 100% premiere now
