Premiere through the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite is also a good option for the freelance editor. Photoshop and AfterEffects are good tools to learn the basics on as well – definitely beneficial to the single video editor on small gigs. Resolve would be free though as AE 1 mentioned vs Adobe Creative Cloud has a licensing fee per month.
Davinci Resolve is a free software that allows you to transcode, edit, and color your footage before export. I have not used Resolve to edit, but I imagine it is more powerful than iMovie.
The software has been around long enough that there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube. Good luck!
Appreciate the advice AE 1 and 2! Thanks much!
I ultimately am piecing together video, photo/still images, and sound into short films. I’m a total amateur and this is more for fun/creative expression than for money. I’ve been using only iMovie for this to date but want to upgrade my video skills and tools. What software or other video editing tools would you recommend for this sort of thing, for a complete novice /amateur to pick up and learn? Or any workshops or classes? My main “skill” is the interviewing and story telling, so I need to learn the video/photography/editing and upgrade my skills in that area. Again, this is a side gig/hobby I’m doing mostly for personal reasons. THANK YOU for any advice.
Thank you, I’ll check that out
