Plaintiff PI attorneys, how many cases do you have? What would you consider to be a manageable case load if you had your own paralegal?

It depends on the complexity. I can easily handle 250 with 80 in litigation if they’re all cookie-cutter car accident cases. Currently I have a broad range of high value, complex cases some with crossover issues (two or more areas of law involved like probate component, etc.) case types vary from premises liability, product liability, cases against huge deep pocket defendants, wrongful death, elder abuse, sex assault, medical malpractice, design defect, etc. I can only handle 35-50 max of those.

like

Definitely depends on support staff too. As in, who is taking calls day-to-day on client updates, treatment status, medical records getting in timely, new client intake calls and meetings, etc. The more support staff you have to handle more “day-to-day maintenance” so to speak, the more time you’ll have to handle more cases and move them.

like

I had about 300 cases in pre litigation with 40 cases in litigation. I was busy let’s just say that.

like

Agreed with A2, the more support staff you have, the more time you can dedicate to settling cases and doing more substantive tasks. A large part of the day is speaking with clients which a lot of the clients want to speak with the lawyer not the case manager.

I am paralegal with over 25 years working in the PI field and I handle over 300 cases or more from intake to settlement or trial. On case by case basis the practice is pretty much basic. Do not go into the PI field if you are not willing to invest heavily on cases. I have been lucky to work with attorneys who do not need to make a living doing PI litigation but do so because is there chosen line of work and make a profit out of it at the same rime.

like

S&C filed, pre suits are 25k policy not really either the effort but from those clients you get refferals

Our prelit attorneys handle between 225-275 cases with none in litigation

I give my cell phone to all clients routinely. However, there are always 1 to 2 clients who abuse this and it seems as soon as their cases are over I find a new one and it is making me rethink. I hate to do this because 98% do not abuse it and I like being connected to my people. Thoughts??

I'm a 6th year attorney in NYC. Strictly defense work; started out with the City Law Dept, did a year and a half of med mal/construction, and for past year and a half have been at a well known defense firm working on high exposure construction accident cases. Contemplating taking a couple interviews at plaintiff's firms to see if there is a good fit. Does anyone have any advice on how approach discussions about compensation and what a market level comp package would or should look like?

What’s a good LA or NY business litigation firm and salary to expect? I’m a 2yr with quite frankly a lot of experience across civ rights, PI, excessive force, wrongful death, employment defense, K dispute, corp. structure dispute, professional licensure. Write every kind of brief, appeals, argue motions, take depos. Am the only associate working directly under partner on all cases. In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

Hi everyone - I'm contemplating an offer from a large PI firm. I'm a little more than halfway through completing my 2nd year of practice, and I'm currently at a small firm with a low salary that's just no longer cutting it.

The offer from the large firm is for a pre-suit position, base salary of $100K - is this salary pretty standard for this kind of position?

Any insight is appreciated, thank you!!
