Please share with me how you started your freelance business. Apparently, a solid work history and 10 YOE mean nothing these days.. When I was putting in these 10 years, I never thought there'd be a time when I'd be unemployed, and it seems, unemployable for close to 7 months. Things are looking dark right now. Is it just me?

Not just you. AI is doing a number on the entire industry. I'm still picking up freelance clients through UpWork, but there are fewer listings than even a year ago and the competition for every single one is insane. I used to land multiple gigs a month when I was diligent about applying. Now it takes me at least that long just to find a good one.

If you want to start your own business as a freelancer find yourself a mentor that is already well established in the field. This really helps and when they get small jobs they aren’t really interested in, they can pass them along to you to help you establish connections and references.
