I call it having my priest collar on! I have the personality that people do this to me all the time. I’ve learned some folks just need a release valve. For the most part I find it an honor people trust me this way…but sometimes it is overwhelming. I’ve learned to hear it, provide a response or support to the person and then move on. Whatever you do, don’t hold all these details in your mind and heart - it is exhausting!
That is just how some people are! Then others are oversharing due to nerves. Tell me all the tea if it makes you feel better.
Smile and nod, smile and nod. Oversharers are everywhere. I got to hear all about one of my patient's son's drug addiction and jail stints. I felt awful for her but also super uncomfortable and could not wait to get out of that room.

Oh I zone out all of the time. I used to be engaged with these people but I have anywhere from 20 to 30 patients at one time. I can’t pretend to listen to everyone’s story.
