I believe the rate is anywhere between $500-$2000 month. Usually, lower the monthly fee means a higher percentage of the markup or A to K on work you win. However, budgets are so low these days as are markups that we usually have to adjust the payout.
Thanks for this. Makes sense that payout would change with profitability or just a lower gross fee maybe so much is changing. Thanks!
As a rep of 11 years I am happy to dive in on this one.
It's all about the tact of negotiation. If someone is savvy they understand how to craft a contract that is not only in the benefit of themselves, but gives something back to the client. In my case, it's always been preexisting relationships. If you have been working with a brand/agency for X # of years I certainly should not be getting free money for doing nothing. However, if I bring you new business and then one day you leave me, my contract stipulates you are obligated to pay me for 6 months post termination of contract on those clients according to the negotiated terms of the contract. As for monthly fee, they are a range. As someone said $0, $500, $1,000, $4000. It all depends. Typically it's 20% of gross on post and 10% of markup on live action. If a rep is not taking a monthly fee, you get what you pay for. Hope that helps.
Do you pay for your own expenses like lunches or drinks with potential clients or do the companies you represent pick up those tabs?
Are they lazy?
No I’m just trying to establish what the norm is. I feel it’s usually a monthly fee plus commission but unsure what the fee typically is.
