I think the more grim reality is that job security is quickly outweighing many other factors.
The market is brutal... I honestly would accept things as they are and hope market picks up before having such an conversation. But what do I know... I was unemployed for 7+ months and had to take a contracting role for 20 k less than I was making before. I have 7+ years in accounting, 6+ years in CPA firms - audit practice, and have my CPA.
The actual reality is that there is no money in the economy right now. You can try to find another job, good luck, but do not have a raise discussion right now or risk being included in layoffs as they will label you a flight risk for being unhappy
Define “raises have been a joke”. What do you think is a realistic raise % for “meeting expectations” vs a higher performer? There has been a global economic slump since 2020. If you think you can get more by moving around, then do it, but all Big-4 firms are doing layoffs these days.
Slump? Really?
You should have been making moves 2020-2023. Now it’s harder but they should have been giving good raises during those years
