Remember to put Milbank as 1 on your Vault survey.

The small handful of firms that pay even above them like Watchell and Susman deserve to even be ahead of them.

Yes nobody wants to be at Susman and bill 3000 hours a year (except you nerds)

It's not a comp ranking it's a prestige ranking. Does anyone actually want to work on the kinds of matters Milbank works on?

likesmart

SMD1 sounds like maybe you’re not aware that vault is solely determined by associate surveys? No editor is deciding it’s based on comp vs prestige vs whatever, they just collect feedback from all the BigLaw associates and then generate the rankings accordingly. Hence why Milbank has already shot way up the rankings since they started pushing comp, OP’s call to reward them isn’t new and has resulted in success already, because many of us associates realize we have the power to rank them higher and incentivize more raises.

Also, keep in mind how the survey actually works. You don’t rank firms in order, you give them a score from 1 to 10. So if you give Milbank a 10 but also give the V10s a 10, Milbank will not move up. You need to give them a 10 and cap all your other firms at 9 or lower for it to have an effect.

I tagged “AI Hallucinator Bot” as #1. Sorry!

I’ll do that if they match Knobbe’s Spring bonuses. Even better if they do that and raise base salaries by $20k or more for seniors.

For context, I want to get into product management at FAANG/fintech with pursuing MBB as a plan B. Thanks in advance!

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

Covid hits, so decided to wait that out before going in-house.

As opposed to firms that are laying people off, are there any that we think are generally strong? I know at my firm we still seem to be bringing over laterals all the time, but I have heard our corporate associates worried about drying work.

I applied for a lateral job in a growing group that doesn’t have associates yet. I talked to a sr. associate in a different office/group to get a better sense of the firm’s vibe and we both really enjoyed our call. He kindly offered to recommend an interview to HR. Is there anything else I can do? I would be switching practices altogether so I want to be as proactive as possible to know what I’m getting myself into (and make my app more favorable because I really want to break into the field).
