I realized recently that I can turn my “super associate” persona at any time. I had it off during covid when my kids needed me and got a bad review. So now it’s back on. I’m responding to midnight emails (and daytime ones in under 20 minutes) and getting work done the same morning. I’m spending countless hours doing edits over edits. I actually don’t like super associate. Why do people live like this 24/7?!? 🤔

My partner and I are moving out of our condo building in NYC at month end, and the building management (not our landlord) has communicated to us that, on top of the 1K non-refundable fee and 1K security deposit to move out (stated in lease), they are also issuing a $1,250 "sanitization fee" for the public areas (hallways/elevators), since we happen to be moving out during COVID19. I’ve been unsustainably swamped for months. Partner said they wanted to add an additional, more senior associate to the team on one massive case that went from “stayed” to “on fire” in the span of a month. I said that sounded awesome and the thought of someone else having to take on some responsibilities was such a relief… so why do I feel competitive and threatened now that the senior associate has actually been added? 🙄

Recent lateral junior associate in brand new practice where I'm the only associate. I'm probably going to bill 1,500 hours max this year due to being very slow and taking time off for a delayed honeymoon which I disclosed during my interview process. I have been told my work product is good, I don't turn anything down, I participate in non-billable work, I'm responsive and I always let people know I'm available to help. Do I need to be worried about getting fired for low hours?

What does it mean if there’s a NEP at the firm who’s been there for a long time (20+ years), but never got promoted to EP? Never held leadership roles too. Does it usually mean EPs does not like the NEP enough to get promoted?

The NEP has a book of business, though no idea how much it brings in.

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.
