Is a firms profits per partner a good idea of what your book should be at to make partner? How about for how much you would make as partner?

Neither. PPP is literally rev divided by partners, with no deductions for costs--it's not really profits. It's a fake metric that is just a ballpark number for revenue and headcount of partners which loosely correlates with "the higher the better."

Junior or newer partners usually don't have as large of a book as rainmakers, so you would expect to be below average.

like

I don’t think this is quite right. PPP is calculated by dividing net income by the number of equity partners so expenses are taken out of revenue.

like

My firm - granted this is hearsay - says that over a million is a “solid book”. Some “big shot” partners books are in the $3-$5mm range and the largest single book I personally know of is $75mm but that’s an extreme rare case with a partner who got very lucky in a very profitable niche

like

Why do you think every firm wants to disclose PPP numbers? Because it is so grossly skewed against reality. Law firms are never that open. Just my two cents.

like

Not at all. At many firms with high PPPs, there is zero expectation that you have any business at all. You need to be relevant or integrated into to some client relationships, but definitely don’t need business. I think the lower the firm’s PPP, the more expectation that you have some business (mainly because your rates are lower, so it’s easier to get business).

Boutique or big 4?

I'm currently an ops manager at a big 4 in London and received an offer from a small boutique firm with 25-30% pay rise.

I'm also in the process with Accenture but I feel like I'm not sure if I'd jump just for the money but also change in environment.
What type of things would you be asking yourself if you were in my shoes and debating to jump ship?

A HR question I really want to understand. ISRS HR quoted a podcast "The not so great resignation" saying 70% regret leaving and many want to go back to old employer. If this really the case the employee likely left due to higher pay at the new company. If they want to boomerang back they will likely come back at even a higher rate than they left the new company for. So getting double raise when they boomeranged. Isn't it unbeneficial, why not just give employee a 7% raise in the first place?
