One thing I’ve noticed at all the agencies I’ve worked at is that all their self-proclaimed proprietary algorithms, tech, strategic frameworks and processes are all BS. No agency is developing their own AI that can compete with real AI companies. Agencies are all just people and some laptops. They’ll sell clients any service they can and then figure out how to deliver it. Any skill they don’t need daily is outsourced and they invest zero to very little money on R&D and staff training.

What does “tech forward” even mean anymore?

What I know about SALT is that it’s mostly experiential work but they’ve grown super fast and are probably branching out. I wouldn’t imagine that’s terribly tech forward if that’s your goal. It’s not like media monks or something. I hear they treat their staff really well and the culture is in but the work is boring and mostly XM focused.
One of their tech leads worked at Accenture for a little while under a guy I know. The Salt was was basically way out of his depth and they ended up cutting him loose. So, probably not.
Salt mostly just produces/executes the experiential work that its clients agency partners creatively develop. They never brought anything fresh to the table but they threw a pretty well run brand party.
