What is the most unhinged what you went about getting a job?

I don’t know if this is exactly unhinged (though, maybe 😂), but after I struck out at OCI during the thick of Covid, I direct applied to just shy of 300 firms lol. End result of that was about 5 interviews and 2 offers, one of which was solid midlaw and I took. So I guess it paid off? But I thought I might lose my mind sending all those out. And then the rejections started rolling in. I once got 5 rejection emails in one day. 🤣 But I guess moral of the story is, persist! Haha.

I wasn’t successful - but I wanted to be a trademark attorney so I looked up celebrity’s trademarks on the USPTO websites and the firms that filed them and sent my resume to all of them. One in particular was the firm that did Blue Ivy Carter’s trademark - I thought it was genius because it was before she was born.

I cold-called firms like a boomer (“Hi, my name is [A1] and I’m a 2L at [Law School] interested in [field] looking for a summer position…”)

Tips for how to start off on a good foot at a new job? Also on how to balance that with taking ownership of the work/asserting yourself, especially when the people there are used to you freelancing (which was less assertive, and similar work but a lower title)… thanks!

Shameless company plug, sorry y’all. But Morgan Stanley just rolled the FRM Experienced Professionals Program. This program is designed to recruit and develop diverse professionals regardless of whether they have a background in Finance or Risk Management. Lmk if you’re interested and I’ll make sure to forward you the information.

Hey everyone I’m making a large career change. I’m still working at my current role but have been learning to code for a minute. Html, css, JavaScript, python, and SQL. Hopefully by the end of my contract (June 2023) I’ll have a decent portfolio with 4 solid apps. This is my goal. Has anyone else broke into tech w/o a official degree along side it? If so what resources did you use?

Is there such thing as a true account role at major branding agencies? Ex. Interbrand, Landor, Pentagram...Sounds like in many cases it’s actually just PM under a different name.

What CTC should I expect for the next role? Total 6 yoe in tech. Currently working as a senior NOC/DDI Engineer with 9LPA Fixed.

Has anyone successfully managed to move from a niche in-house practice to a more generalist role? If so, can you provide any helpful tips to transition? I have started down a specialty that I fear will limit my mobility in the future and am looking for tips on how to not be pigeon-holed.

Not sure if this is the best place but I have my first round with JPM for quantitative research analyst but not sure what to expect. Can any one share any insights or pointers? Been really looking for this opportunity and not sure where to start besides brushing up on my work experience. Any technicals or coding questions that I should anticipate?

I find people to be so disappointing. I wish I could live all alone without them. But I guess that’s lonely and we need to feel loved by someone.

Consistently one of the hardest parts of my job at every agency I’ve worked has been reaching creative directors to get things approved. Remote work has made this even more challenging, when we’re running out of time to make edits before an internal review because we can’t get feedback when we need it. Does anyone have any solves for this? FWIW, my creative directors are thoughtful, great people, just exceptionally busy.
