Where will you be buying from? I got custom boots fitted at Surefoot and they've been truly incredible.
Pro
Go to a shop and get fitted for boots. You won’t have a good time if you buy boots off the shelf - do the fitting and splurge for the foot molding. It isn’t as simple as shoes and it’s worth potentially paying a little bit more than you could do online for a bootfitter’s expertise and being able to try some on.
Skis are easier - you can read reviews online and buy them that way if you’re not interested in demoing before you buy. Even if you buy online, you’ll need to spend like $75 at a local ski shop to install your bindings and set them up for your body size, ability level, and boots. Shops will almost always mount bindings for free if you buy from them. Ask the bootfitter what they recommend for skis and bindings while you’re there.
this^ i got set up with boots through a fitting process at a local shop, it’s best to get help from someone knowledgeable here. I ended up buying skis and bindings a year later online, went to get bindings mounted, they remembered me and actually did it for free. ski culture is tight knit so find a good shop and stick with em, they’ll take care of you.
I would go to a shop and get fitted for boots, then demo a couple sets of skis d bindings to see which setup is most comfortable.
Where will you be skiing? Bit difference between east coast and west coast snow
Good timing...i just got back into skiing after a very long layoff. My old skis were 200’s (the straight kind). Mostly ski in the northeast and looking for a good all mountain ski thats easy to turn. Tried a pair of volkl deacon 8.0’s last week and really liked them. I really dont know how to pick a ski without riding it on the mountain.
