My son had a horrible time transitioning to the toddler room at 12mo from the infant room and it broke my heart. I seriously contemplated taking him out. I went and toured even more daycares, etc., but the place he is at still seemed like the best location. He came home one day and couldn't talk because he was screaming the full day, so I seriously contemplated quitting my job. I ultimately gave it more time (a few more weeks) and he finally adjusted.
At 10 months, I will say my son was at the stranger danger phase and likely still in it at 12 months so the new people and routine threw him off. I think, after all the sickness, youll notice benefits to daycare, e.g., making friends, leaning new skills, etc so hang in there. But pay attention to ensure the daycare workers are paying attention to him -- your place has a camera, so thats great. Check the state records avaliable regarding your daycare, etc. Trust your gut, but there will be an adjustment period for any child transitioning to daycare.
I think you'll both adjust but it will take time.
It gets much easier I promise !! My son started daycare at 9 months and I think that’s just the around the time they really understand stranger danger more-so than earlier. One thing you might already be doing so sorry if it’s something you know is when you drop him off say goodbye and walk away calmly but promptly. Do not linger or hold him longer for extra hugs etc… this can trigger them into thinking that there is a reason you’re staying there and that they are right in not wanting you to go. It’s sooooooo hard but he will get used to it and it’s actually really cute to see them start to smile when they see their little daycare buddies arrive and play with them :). I’m sorry though I know how you feel and it is truly gut wrenching… that part doesn’t go away until the crying stops unfortunately. Good luck !!!
