Struggling with a landlord who won’t fix leaky roof. Put in multiple requests, and after a couple of weeks they send a tech to “fix” it- but the tech doesn’t come in to see where the leaks are. Saturday a new leak appeared (among others) and literally started dripping brown water on my face at 1 AM. Had to sleep on the couch. Put in emergency request- crickets. I can’t do the “pay someone to fix it” and withhold that amount from rent thing, cause I don’t have a key to the roof. Any ideas?

Make sure that you are documenting everything and keeping a paper trail- photos, videos, communications, dates/times, damages and hardship incurred and best estimates of any monetary losses. The law is most definitely on your side on this one.

Hi [Landlord/Property Manager],

I’m following up again about the ongoing roof leak in my unit at [your address]. The situation has worsened — on [insert date/time], brown water started dripping from the ceiling onto my bed. I’ve submitted multiple maintenance and emergency requests, but the issue still hasn’t been properly addressed.

This creates unsafe and unsanitary living conditions. Under Chicago RLTO §5-12-070, landlords are required to maintain the property in compliance with building and health codes and to make all necessary repairs to keep it habitable.

Please confirm when a full repair will be completed. If the problem isn’t resolved within 14 days of this notice, I’ll need to take the next steps allowed under the RLTO (§5-12-110), including arranging repairs and deducting the cost from rent, withholding rent payments, potentially terminating my lease agreement, or other remedies for uninhabitable conditions.

Thank you,
[Your Name]

Thoughts on this Celine Tripmphe bag (maybe in teen size since I’m petite)? I LOVE Celine bags and already own Classic Box (light grey) and Micro Belt bag (amazon green). Would this overlap with my collection, especially the classic box? I feel guilty dropping $3-4k for a bag when my salary’s only 100k. But I want to treat myself for upcoming promotion (hopefully) and for going through hard year in 2020. Was looking at Navy Blue but also considering black, camel or more fun colors (red, pink)

I work with great people. Really can’t say anything bad about my firm in general either. But…I still dislike the entire premise of law firm life, the billable hour, etc.. I’d love to work in a law school setting as a counselor or something but I can’t afford the pay cut. *sigh* Does anyone feel like being a lawyer is just doing homework all day? First world problems I suppose. I’m very thankful to have a job ❤️

I work with a junior PM who is not performing. Not my report, we share a mgr, but as a senior PM I lead the product. He can’t finish anything, needs a lot of coaching, I give him 2h/wk but I can’t afford more.
After 2mos I raised it to our mgr who promised to work with him. 2 more mos passed, mgr talked to him only once, no change in perf. I think mgr doesn’t want to deal with the problem. Now they ask if I want to manage JPM. It is going to be a ‘no’ but I want to ask some advice on all this.

So as a 30ish yo with a government/PE/tech background and CIPM/CIPP… I’m finding privacy work is just much easier and interesting than other kinds, but still pays plenty well.

Is it too late/inadvisable to go to law school to specifically aim for privacy work?

I just find some firms are unwilling to entertain the idea that anyone but a lawyer has anything relevant to contribute in this space…
