You have to do what's best for you. If you've weighed everything and recieved a better offer, take the better offer. Life happens they'll move on
THIS. It happens. Do what’s best for you. There are other candidates for the company.
Weigh everything, 5k isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things. Consider the benefits, paid time off, holidays, length of the commute and cost of gas, etc. Unless there are other benefits it may not be a better position. Ultimately just decide what job you think you’d like better and be more likely to stay with and promote at if that’s your goal. In the end, if money is the key then be honest and explain your situation if you must retract your agreement. Explain that ultimately you just have to do what is best monetarily. Personally though, unless I feel like the second role is a better fit, I’d probably stick with my original offer. 5k is $100/wk (80 after tax).
Agree with this - take into consideration every aspect of both jobs and what ultimately is that best choice for you.
Sometimes the extra $5k is worth it and sometimes it’s just not.
Is it unethical yes but also sometimes $5000 is worth being unethical.
Just be honest. Tell them regrettably, you’re going to move forward with another opportunity as it is a higher salary. Whereas it is $5000/annually they may meet that financial demand. It is extremely hard to find reliable and responsible staff! I own a seasonal business and have a staff member who returns every summer and asks for a raise, I have not once said no.
Guaranteed if the company received an application from a better-qualified person asking for a lower pay, they would immediately drop you. Only fair you do the same if you get the receive a higher paying offer. YOu gotta look out for yourself
It is unethical and disrespectful to reject an offer that you had already accepted, at the end of the day what matters most is the word.
I would present the other offer to the company with whom you have accepted the offer. If they can match the offer then that’s great.
Well as long as you Cummins at your reason, and it’s a legitimate one. You should be good.
Damn. I need to proof read my comments before I press send. Smh.
There is a respectful way of doing this. As others have pointed out 5K is not much when you break it down. And if that 5K makes you jump a tax bracket you will actually see less on your paycheck. But if you see that it’s worth it just be honest of why you feel the need to accept the other offer. Your honesty will be respected even if they are disappointed. They may even decide to counter offer if they feel you deserve it.
Just do whats best for you, unfortunately MOST jobs you are replaceable. They will find someone else and not think about it twice in a few weeks. Or maybe they could counter offer you. Be truthful explain the situation and say you've been given another offer. They may come back and offer you more money!
Do what’s best for you
In my own experience, I’ve accepted a job. Then got another offer for something that interested me more, I stayed with the first job offer because I had accepted, but I regret it to this day. Weighing your options is important but do what your gut tells you. I understand you might think it’s unprofessional but you have to live your life and work that job.. no one else
It's your life, do what's best for you. Do compare both the oppotunities, pick the one that offers professional development and growth.
As long as you give a heartfelt apology they appreciate honesty
