Your priority should always be your mental and physical health.
Treat the job as a job. It’s just to get paid. Job satisfaction is not life satisfaction
Makes sense in theory and logically but you have to disagree with this to an extent to have a career in PE/ IB/ MBB consulting etc … a lot of ppl in these fields are ruthless to do everything to maximize their careers and have put a lot of their self worth and identity into their careers from a young age , though would imagine what you’re saying starts to ring truer at 30 than 22-28 for these folks
I’m a VP now but hitting 30 and having several friends move away or to the burbs was the wake up call. I’ve missed the key years where everyone was just hanging out often (with successful careers in tech with similar pay) whereas I could only make it to the catch up hangs over the weekend, if I wasn’t exhausted.
I’m now focused on finding a good WLB job that gives me the next 5 years of spending time with friends and family before I really start a family of my own.
Buddy of mine just went thru a very similar scenario. VP at an LMM firm, turned 30 last year and realized he didn’t want to move up in his current firm and wanted better work/life balance. Just joined a family office on their investment team. Similar work but a lot less travel and better hours. Maybe something like that would work for you?
