Pre-MBA at MBB — Have worked on a few DDs but have not touched the model workstream yet. Any advice on how I can best discuss my “deal” experience in PE interviews despite that? Thanks in advance!

To be clear- the “model” workstream in CDD is never the “model” that PE associates hold (eg the LBO). The “model” in consulting could be a number of things- but most likely just some market model/market mapping. You aren’t expected to discuss the LBO for the CDD in an interview because that’s not what Bain gets hired to do. When you talk about the deal just talk about what you worked on, the thesis the investor had, why you liked/didn’t like the deal

like

I interviewed for PE and got a role and never once touched model workstream. That being said you should still understand how a TAM model works and it’s considerations. But when I interviewed my deal discussions were more about the full deal, why it was/wasn’t attractive, our hypothesis and considerations and so on

like

Ditto

What have you done on DD’s? If you know how to qualitatively size a market and know how to do an LBO / 3 statement, that’s enough

like

Agreed on this ^. It obviously depends on the fund, but my experience was that most funds just needed to see me demonstrate a level of financial acumen in the form of building a three statement LBO model showing MOIC and IRR. Everything else is learned / re-learned upon arrival imo

Mention “model workstream” in the interview and they’ll be impressed

funnylike

Definitely don’t — they’ll grill you on it if you mention it

Make a 1-2 page exec summary of the exec summary. Key is tying together all sections to then give a view of the achievability of Biz plan.

Talk strategically about your deal experience (why you made the business better) and be able to answer questions about why you would invest in it… but moreso, be prepared to crush a 3 statement modeling test if you want to recruit anywhere that isn’t just blindly friendly to consultants

I applied for a job at Visa and was contacted the same day. A few days later I had a 30-minute screening interview with the hiring manager. I knew I was very early in the process since the job had only been posted for a few days. It's been 3 weeks and I haven't heard back, even after reaching out to the recruiter. Have I been ghosted or is there still hope? Does anyone at Visa have insights? Looks like there are a ton of jobs posted so maybe they are just backed up?

Offering advice to job seekers who go around recruiters and message hiring teams, execs, etc. You are putting the Recruiters job in danger. If a Recruiter declines you or doesn’t choose to reach out, it is because the hiring team declined you, or you don’t have the experience. You will most likely not be considered for future roles because of this. When I see people giving advice to reach outside the Recruiter, it’s bad advice. Very rare is this a good idea.
