In most situations it's obvious which task takes priority, it's either evidently important or we're up against the deadline. If it's not so obvious, I'll ask people where things stand and what takes precedence. I don't want to put myself in the position of working on something that could wait because I didn't know something else was urgent.

If everything’s on fire, let one burn. That’s prioritisation.
Hahah I always say if everything is urgent it means nothing is urgent… but really I always check with a manager about when everything is actually due and work from that (rather then them just saying it’s urgent)
