Have you tried saying it exactly like that? Sometimes there's no need to beat around the bush. It could be that you just haven't expressed you're interested in taking on more "serious" stories yet
Now, if they shoot you down after expressing your interest, then we can have a different conversation on what to do from there
Closed mouth don't get fed. Let them know what you want and if they won't give it to you then you can look for it somewhere else
I don't mind if our reporters try out different things as long as they meet with me and have a conversation about it, BUT sometimes we already have someone doing their job so well that it'd be unfair to take them off it. Just something to consider
Of course, demand from your boss that you need something that motivates you beyond what you do, and that something related to what you like and that seems more serious to you is what you want to do now, it will surely make you cringe. Try it.
I wrote columns, and I felt that it was because I was a woman, I wrote an email to my boss and she summoned me to a meeting where I explained what I would like to do, now 12 years later I am still working as international political affairs correspondent for my company, I am happy? Well yes, but I never have time hahaha.
Do you have weekly meetings where you pitch stories? As well as communicate your wishes to your editor, you can also find compelling/relevant stories that need to be written and simply pitch them?
