This is a long shot, but I’m one year out of law school and currently working at a Big 4 accounting firm. I’m looking to transition back into law, as I’m not feeling too optimistic about the consulting career path given recent breakthroughs in AI. If anyone has made a similar transition or has general advice about breaking back into law, I’d greatly appreciate it. For full transparency, I’m based in the DC area, went to a T-30 law school, and was at best an average student.

What practice area? I’m in tax and went from big 4 to biglaw. Several colleagues lateraled from big 4 as well, so it’s a great springboard if you’re in a practice that you can transition to law.

I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?
