Consider moving to Alaska. It is incredibly scenic there. I know some people who have moved there from here and the weather is certainly a contrast from here. This state may not be a good fit.
I sleep with the windows open at night. I like the cool breeze.
We bought a mini-split for our bedroom a few years ago and we just run that at night (it makes our room super cold!) and is way more efficient to run. We just run the AC during the day now. Otherwise, insulation and newer windows will make the biggest different.

The split means that essentially they split the ac into two separate parts. Instead of having ductwork running thru the entire house, you’re just running lines from the outside unit to the head unit in the individual room you want to cool. So instead of cooking the entire house, you’re just cooking wherever the head unit is inside.
Can't handle it without the AC running. Besides, we have children at home and we can't take the risk with them having pneumonia in the end.
Open windows and doors during cooler parts of the day, such as early morning and late evening, to allow for natural ventilation and fresh air to flow through your home. Use window or attic fans to help exhaust hot air from your home.
Spend time in the cooler parts of your home, such as the basement or lower levels, during the hottest parts of the day. Avoid spending too much time in rooms that face direct sunlight and are hotter.
Really? It’s been cold this year? Yesterday felt amazing I thought. Nice here when under 100 degrees and such a dry heat. The Alaska recommendation might be a good one for you.
A fan, preferably solar powered if you can find one. We like to wet cloths with cold water from the sink and put it on our foreheads when the A/C goes out
I've got heavy wooden shutters that I keep closed basically all day from Jun- Sept.
I installed tint film on some of the windows but the shutters seem to be way more effective.
Drink lots of water and keep your blinds closed to keep the heat out. You will only have to run the air conditioning for about an hour and you should be good.
