Yes, I did, but I’m a patent attorney so I feel like that’s a unique practice that lends to you following through.
Nope. I went because I wanted to handle adoptions but now I'm in labor and employment
Definitely not, lol. I had some interest in family law when I began law school. Today, I am in-house generalist
I went to be a telecommunications lawyer but I became a public finance lawyer

Ya so basically no one is an international human rights lawyer, so a pivot was sort of baked in for you
I know one
Nope. Wanted to work in some sort of constitutional law think tank or have a job like Dan Abrams (didn’t know who his father was at the time). But then debt, the fallacy that it would temporary, and golden handcuffs and here I am in CRE finance two decades later.
I went to do "business law" and stay far away from a courtroom - and now am in corporate/M&A.
Pro
Sort of. I wanted to do public interest/civil rights, and I do labor law. (Squarely public interest but not necessarily civil rights, although my work occasionally involves first amendment issues.)
lol same (even moved across the country to go to a law school with a strong international law program) and ended up doing financial regulatory work

i concentrated in health law but didn’t have luck getting a health law job after my clerkship. all the entry level positions wanted at least 3 yrs of experience (which still doesn’t make sense to me 🤷♀️). i fell into various aspects of civil litigation + didn’t really like it. now i am in family law.
I wanted to go into civil rights law too, ended up in family law. I have a great boss and like everyone at the firm I’m in but am so burnt out on the work. I am hopeful that eventually I can do something that makes me feel like I’m doing some good for the world.
Wanted to be a healthcare attorney, and am a healthcare and technology attorney 🙏🏼
Similar to a few responses, I knew I wanted to do corporate law but never knew it would be private investment funds (I didn’t even know what that was as a 1L). The BL firm I joined gave me two years to choose a specialty within corporate law, and I liked the pace and people in the funds group more than M&A.
