Thoughts about jobs (public or otherwise) where one can earn lots of trial experience? Something other than the obvious state attorney or public defender roles, which seem to have a critical staffing problem.

It'd have to be insurance defense.

Looks like it. Thanks!

ID or plaintiff PI would be best bet. Bankruptcy litigation lends itself to lots of evidentiary hearings. Financial services lit could too, but residential mortgage foreclosures aren’t exactly the way I’d want a hard-nosed trial lawyer to get their trial chops. Federal prosecutor or state AG maybe, but think ID would leave you better positioned. Trial counsel in large scale products lit also gets to trial frequently, but you’ve generally gotta be pretty senior to have a seat at the table there. Otherwise you’ll be back in the office or hotel doing grunt work (still valuable experience, but I suspect that’s not what you’re looking for).

So informative, thanks much.

My firm does insurance defense in auto negligence/slip and falls and there are always 2-3 groups in trial every week

Great insight, thanks a lot.

A county attorneys office has a litigation department, but most counties want someone with trial experience considering the stakes.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.

Recommendations for firms to look into in South FL? I'm in Ft. Lauderdale but am open to Boca or Miami. I'm a first year associate in ID (coverage issues) but really would prefer transactional work. More importantly though, I'm looking for companies who pay relatively well (doesn't necessarily have to be market), are open to remote/hybrid work, aren't sweatshops. I'd settle for insurance work if theres good WLB & $$$ lol
