Well they have stores in Saudi’s Arabia where people are routinely tortured and killed and women have fewer rights than men. But I guess this performative gesture shows how hollow their morals are.
Perhaps I’m just jaded, but sounds like a good way to glom on to something many people in your target market are passionate about while selling more soap. Save the Whales. Pay Our Teachers. All low stakes stances to take.
As a brand they've always stood for things though, which makes it feel more genuine/believable coming from them
I don’t disagree with CD1, I worked for them during the holidays in college and their company culture was very “sell sell sell” but with the spirit of “we’re doing amazing things”… it can be a bit much. That said, as a consumer it is nice to see brands take a stance and try to use their profits for good. There are so many brands that do the opposite and I’d prefer to purchase from and support brands that are doing positive things.
I’m just impressed they got a client to have even a vertebrae of a backbone when today no brand wants to touch anything even mildly ‘political’
Lush always taps into politics and consumers of the brand know that. The brand was political over its lack of social media. They always have the charity pot running. And they tackle issues like the environment.
As a fan of lush, I think this makes 100% sense for the brand. They’re not on the Ben & Jerry’s level of politics, but this fits into the brands activism side.
It’s a giant eyeroll from me.
Same. How it is really contributing to the goal? "Awareness"? We already know. I don't want to consider global atrocities as I pick out an exfoliant. Makes me feel like I should be spending money toward an actual solution than a luxury bath bomb.
Bringing awareness is a good thing. And shaking people out of inertia is a good thing.
Just not sure if the LUSH customer demographic - who’d take notice of such a stunt - would be particularly passive about Palestine to begin with.
I just went and bought some lush
