Do you like writing website and user interface copy?
Its great for smart, thoughtful writers who know sometimes simplicity is best. Less fun for jokey ad writers who want to be the center of creative attention.
@CW1, no :) there are some people who do “systems” work (which, to clarify, is not only UX/UI writing), “stories” work (traditional campaign), and some who flip between both (it’s less common, but if you can, why not?).
I actually started on the traditional side too but liked systems at RGA, and now do both.
In the last year / year and a half, I worked on live music, a bunch of content (but not TVC), activations, maker programs, IRL experiences, etc. It’s a completely mixed bag — all of which required a fundamental understanding of experience design that had nothing to do with “web/UX/UI writing.”
I’d recommend clarifying what group and client(s) you’ll be working on, and the fact that you don’t particularly enjoy (or aren’t great at) long-form copy. I think that’ll narrow expectations pretty quickly and hopefully help you figure out if this is the right move, right now.
Oftentimes, we hire for a particular need. So even if this one isn’t a good fit, a better role could always open later. (Again, personal experience — I turned down the first opportunity but contin’d the conversation a year later when a more fitting one popped up, and here we are.)
Depends on the account but we’ve done some killer work in social and above the line recently.
