Today I went to the funeral of a colleague who I was close with most of my teaching career. He was my friend, a mentor, and my inside joke man. He brightened my day every day. I was heartbroken when he retired, but we met for lunch (I’m now retired) often. I simply can’t believe he’s gone. He always listened to my complaints and laughed at my sense of humor. Has this happened to anyone else? How did you handle it?

Yesterday my son got a wedding invite for one of his college friends. And I got a call that one one mine had passed. I am at that part of life where I see obits for people younger than me and I am still in the classroom. Cherish the relationships you have with those the same age or older. Enjoy the time you spend with each other. No matter how long you live, life is too short.

Not a colleague, but a close friend. We're in our early 30s, so it was completely unexpected. Still hits me out of nowhere when I think of something I want to tell her and realize I can't. I'm really sorry for your loss.

I’m really sorry for your loss and the walk through grief that you have begun. I haven’t lost a close colleague, and only one close friend, but I’ve lost every family member older than me with only a few exceptions. Grief can end up defining us if we aren’t careful. I’ve seen it many times.

I just encourage you to deal with it instead of running from it. Find comfort and solace where you can, and walk and crawl forward as you can find the strength.

Best wishes to you.

I haven't had that happen, but I can imagine that was incredibly hard. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Hang in there.

Feeling burnt out and unmotivated with agency life. Throughout the past year I’ve been added to a variety of “problem accounts” with challenging, disorganized and rude client contacts. Since then, it feels my teams have dwindled and I’ve been left to pick up the pieces / manage it all. I’m struggling to feel inspired and am starting to dread my work. Any tips for how to initiate account changes without sounding whiny? Or - any tips in general?

Hi everyone. I was a solution engineer at Oracle. I graduated from college in May and this was my first job out of college so the lay offs were pretty rough. I majored in Supply chain management and I have 2 internships under my belt. Do you guys have any advice or tips on what to do moving forward? I would like to stay in tech and I’m giving it a few weeks before I start pivoting to more traditional supply chain roles. Thanks.
