Does anyone here work for Silicon Valley Bank? They recently acquired Boston Private. I’m a candidate for a job at Boston Private. Wondering if SVB is planning layoffs in the near term at BP? Also, does anyone know the anticipated benefits to be rolled out from SVB as the parent company? Specifically interested in health insurance providers. Thanks in advance for any information! Don’t get discouraged! Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Maybe give it some time for the dust to settle, if you can do so. Is there anything else you can dedicate your brain and time to? Maybe do something philanthropy based? Cleanse your mind and soul from the evils of advertising? Best of luck! Don’t know you but rooting for you. 🙏
Thank you.
Don’t get discouraged. Understand that, as every ad we all make seems to start with, “we are living in unprecedented times...”
But seriously, with freelance or jobs, sometimes they come and sometimes they don’t. The best thing I have found to do is make searching part of your regimen, not the whole day. Don’t sit there scrolling through Fishbowl or LInkedIn, waiting for the opportunity to come on the next refresh.
Instead, wake up, workout, have coffee, sit down and do emails and outreach. Be done by 10:30. Then, go do something you’ve been meaning to do. Read a book. Go for a walk. Cook a nice lunch for you or a loved one. Paint or write. Go back and do emails at 2:30. Check once more at 6 and be done.
Obviously, your day can look different. But don’t drive yourself crazy clicking refresh.
You have done this before and you will do this again. It’s weird right now. Understand it’s not you.
Awesome post
Here's a resource you might find handy.
All I ask of everyone I share this with is that they add to it when and where they can.

Helpful - but why is New York page showing up totally blank?
Remember that with this number of layoffs, there will be no jobs for months. You cannot treat that as a judgment on your success, or your career. It’s like we’ve all been drafted into a war. All you can do during this time have a good story to tell when jobs reopen sometime next year. You need to find a nonprofit, or a small business to help. In terms of income, it’s a shame these loans are going to small businesses and not individuals who really need them.
@CD2 This is a very interesting take. I like how level headed you sound. I cannot let myself believe that I won’t pick something up in the next few weeks. It’s my blind optimism that keeps me getting up and sending the emails. That, and my bills and my family’s needs.
Job 1- reach out to your contacts & recruiters and let them know what happened so they can keep you in mind. It’s awkward with some but do it! You will be amazed at the good will you will receive. Job boards don’t show what’s going on in a company- people do... very sorry this has happened, good luck to you!
Take it easy first and try to rest. Give yourself two weeks. I’m sorry for your job loss.
Be patient it’ll likely take time... hundreds of people at a number of agencies were laid off today (check agency spy). The industry is going to be forced to change (finally), use the time to really explore if you want to walk back into another agency job that provides little security long term. In the meantime network like crazy and something will come up
Love all the empathy and kindness here. ❤️ Good luck to us all. ❤️

I assume you’re the “just got laid off” ex-McCann whose post I pinned here, yes? Just hoping there’s not two of you. ☹️
Hang in there. As others wrote, and as every single ad has reminded us, these are “unprecedented times™️“ and agencies and brands are absolutely swirling trying to figure out layoffs, furloughs, keeping the lights on, and hiring is probably at the bottom of their list unless they are truly one of the lucky ones.
So — cliche alert but true — use this time to embark on other creative or personal endeavors, freelance if you can, shed those pounds you’ve always wanted to shed, just keep busy because stagnation is a mental and physical bummer. But also—CHILL. Take some time to exhale and decompress.
Also, what’s your role/job title/skill set? If creative, DM me and I will try to give you some other more specific bits of advice (freelancing eg) or some contacts/leads if I know any, etc.
Sorry to hear your situation, but know it’s not your fault, or related to the quality of your work. One thing that’s helped me was to establish a routine. Set your alarm. Start your day by working out and pumping blood and endorphins throughout your system. Set a time for emails and LinkedIn. Revise your website, or make one. Reviewing your past work will remind yourself of the value you bring. As others have suggested, volunteer and offer to mentor. Set a time to get outside and do yard work if you have one, or try hour-long power walks while listening to podcasts, like The Daily, A-List, etc. These are just suggestions that have worked for me. I’m sure you will find your own. Best of luck.
Take a breadth and make sure you keep a positive outlook. If you aren’t convinced you’re a great hire and it’s their loss if they don’t hire you, they’ll get that vibe. Be confident. Be realistic too. Some interviews may not be the gig you want but it may be great practice, a momentum builder, etc.
Thank you
What’s your role?
Knowing that it’s slow out there, do you have the desire or bandwidth to do a side project? Now is a great time to do something creative outside of advertising. And there’s certainly enough people out there with time on their hands who might be willing to partner up with you. If nothing else, just thinking about what kind of side project you’d want to do might inspire you. Best of luck!
