Copenhagen > Stockholm
Just went to Copenhagen and Stockholm in July with a 5 year old. I found the Copenhagen discover card really useful for transit + covering entrance fees for major attractions. My daughter enjoyed the random playgrounds, Tivoli Gardens, and the zoo the most. The Carlsberg brewery was pretty entertaining as well, even for kids. Copenhagen has a great playground culture. We didn’t have time for Trafiklegepladsen but it looks like a lot of fun.
Stockholm has Junibacken and Skansen
2nd the Copenhagen recs - we did with 7 and 3 year olds and they loved walking the pedestrian zone, the castle and such. Tivoli Gardens and Zoo were stand outs, as was the harbor boat ride.
I have not been to Bergen—but there is a semi fast train between Stockholm and Copenhagen. So that can make travel a little easier. Both have tons to do! Depending on the time of year you may just want to stay in Copenhagen.
About 220 rainy days per year in Bergen. Pack the poncho
I have been to both and would go back to Stockholm, not Bergen
Pro
There you go OP. If you really want to go to Bergen, go. I would go back but only as a Norway-only trip and because it’s close to the scenery. Tons more to do with the kids in Stockholm, it doesn’t feel crowded in many places - they might like the Vasa Museum, you can take a train directly to Stockholm. Easy.
Or should we swap Stockholm instead of Bergen? Trying to stick to 2 places
Pro
Yes, Bergen, while pretty, is small, and if you’re going that far you might as well enjoy Norway. I tell people to make Norway its own trip and focus on the nature. Sweden and Denmark, on the other hand, are less about nature and more about the cities. So yes, do Copenhagen and Stockholm and skip Bergen
Pro
Skip Bergen and save it for a Norway trip and visit Stockholm instead. Or, better yet, stay in Denmark and go to Legoland and Aarhus.
