Two years of ID and getting tired of it. If I move to Plaintiff side PI does that eliminate any shot of getting hired at any firm that does business lit or some other type of more complex litigation?

I did 8 miserable years of ID and managed to jump to complex commercial litigation after that. But let me be clear, I had to absolutely claw and fight my way out of ID and it took years of trying. Don’t get pigeonholed

A friend sent me an email he got from a recruiter about an opening. I contacted the recruiter and he set up an interview, they seemed very interested in the fact that I had many years of litigation experience, had taken hundreds of depos, many hearings, conducted mediations, etc. ultimately I (not to brag) absolutely killed it in the interview and they offered me the job before close of business that day.

No, it doesn’t eliminate the opportunity. But you will have to overcome the stigma of PI work.

I did 2 years of ID, 6 years of Plaintiff-side PI, and now the last 8 years of complex commercial litigation. I was hired by the first firm I applied to after deciding to leave PI, but they definitely were reluctant. Ultimately I excelled, proved myself, and rose quickly, and I much prefer the work I do now. But there was definitely some skepticism before I started.

With the benefit of hindsight, I probably wouldn’t choose PI work if I had to do it over again. But it ultimately didn’t prevent me from getting a job in complex commercial litigation down the road.

Interesting how people think pi isn’t good practice. It’s a lot of bs

Plaintiff side injury work isn’t complex but business litigation is?

I’m glad it lead you to believe that because none of that is true. Let me respond in further kind. Why can’t you answer a simple question?

Is it the case here?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

I am concerned with fulfilling billable hours requirement. I’m required to hit 2100 hours yearly and I’m at ~1,500 hours and I think I’ll hit 150-180hours this month. What will happen if I don’t hit my targeted amount by the end of my year.

I have a partner that calls me multiple times a day to talk about updates on our cases. Sometimes just to ask “anything to update me on?” He’s known across all of the associates for doing this. Most of the calls repeat information I’ve already provided in emails to him or the client. I normally bill this time as “strategize on” or “consider XYZ in further of” and it keeps getting appealed. Any advice?
