Agreed, I interviewed for a role and this person felt completely threatened by me because I had more experience and knowledge and it was very evident during the interview.
Didn’t get the role and later found out someone much less experienced than me got the role.
I’ve been really shocked lately seeing Strategy Directors with less than 10 years of experience.
I moved countries at 38 (worst idea ever) and the first 3 years “I didn’t have enough Canadian experience”
12 years after I have too much experience aka too old.
Are you me? I have the same story as yours. Also lost a strategy director role to somebody who started his advertising career in 2020.
That is so rude! Sorry to hear.
It's all about hiring young now, I even heard a creative director say out loud at a company meeting. "We need to hire young, We don't like the way old people think"
Same here a couple of years ago I interviewed at two places. They hired 2 guys half my age 👵🏼
I have a friend in his mid-50s who has a new job and is being manipulative to undermine his younger boss and I said "you know, you're why they prefer to hire young people who are more easily controlled"
sigh
It just happened again. I was approached by HR for a freelance role and then the hiring manager (head of strategy) declined to interview me. I looked them up on LinkedIn and she so junior.
