What have you found to be good ways to help bridge gaps left from time out of class due to Covid? I teach 6th grade. We use iReady but feel like there are other sources I could use that would help fill in learning gaps.

Some of our teachers are using Khan Academy to boost up the things that kids missed out on last year. Personally, I don’t care for iReady. My suggested would be to focus on tying in last years standards to this years work. I believe it’s safe to say that our kids aren’t behind - they’re exactly where they should be after missing months of school.

Is your school virtual or in person this year?

IXL for math.

Delta Math. There is a free version

Thank you. I've never heard of Delta math.

I have found Prodigy to work better than Khan Academy for the gaps. You can assign the gap skills for them to work on and they like the games that go with it.

I have used DeltaMath for several years. Students love it and often ask for it as an additional resource.

Any parents who are still on the safe side with Covid? We have a 1 year old and being safe and staying mostly home is really getting to me. They didn’t ask for payment and message popped up saying watch your text/email for next steps. Anything else I can do?

Additional Posts in Math Educators

I found using GoFormative’s free version to be very helpful in teaching new topics to my students. I embed videos I make demonstrating how to complete a question, next I ask them to complete an example showing work, and then the next question they type their answer so it automatically alerts them to see if they answered correctly. It can be used live in a meet and on an independent virtual day. In my google meets, I’m able to give feedback on any question they have trouble with in real time.

I finally was able to convince my principal that we need a consistent math intervention at the MS level (grades 5-8). (Right now, we are just "doing our own thing," which isn't helping students progress much.) Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be beneficial to have some sort of progress monitoring tool as part of the program, if possible. Our classes run roughly 55 minutes (which is too long for an intervention, in my humble opinion).

Thanks for any advice.
