It seems like hiring managers are using systems to parse resumes should expect that candidates are using them to create the resumes (and cover letters). It’s lazy on both sides.
Yes, this is the new normal. Companies built a gamified system that filters people out over missing keywords or subtle formatting. Since many hiring teams already rely on AI to manage large applicant pools, it makes sense that candidates are doing the same to get noticed. If a resume lacks a human touch, that can be a red flag. But that’s exactly what screening is for.

What kind of subtle formatting are they filtering for?
Sadly, yes, I see so many AI generated resumes each week, which I wouldn't think twice about but a large number of candidates don't seem to bother to edit these resumes.
The AI generated resumes I see all look and sound the same. Especially for tech roles. They are key word heavy and lack personality. It’s like taking the job description and reformatting into a resume. Big turn off.
