Looks like some newbie from delta is working there.
Don’t worry they will go through the United orientation soon to avoid this kind of unnecessary proactive customer service.
That likely has nothing to do with united policy, and a lot to do with EU regulations. Europe has very stiff penalties compared to US.
I was kicked off an overbooked economy flight last year, and the airline gave me 800 bucks plus nice hotel etc for the night before the flight
Thats EU regulation, any mechanical delay needs to be compensated. Had it been in the US they would have dropped kicked you for having the nerve of booking a flight that had mechanical issues.
Ask for more money or more points. What they gave you is peanuts.

New hire at United forgot he/she not at old airline. It will be beaten out of them soon.
Take the points
Polaris has a number of different configurations and they advertise the good ones along with the bad ones all as Polaris
Take the money
Y’all buncha Debbie downers lol
You can probably submit for cash compensation too. They give you the credit hoping you won’t go to the extra effort for a check to be mailed
Yep, if the plane was originating in LHR than they have to pay. You most likely also got 800 mandatory for the delay. Ask about that and they will offer 1200 in United bucks. Well worth it.
Had something similar happen recently. Had a 4+ hour delay once and AA credited me €600 because of the regulation. I’ll take it
