Add pushkar to your place. Lots of backpackers and eat to meet people. Skip the desert safari though (not a real desert)
Got to be so much fun! Are you taking a guided trip with pre selected itinerary or exploring ? How long are you going for? I could provide much more detail but must do cities include
Jaisalmer (for sand dunes and historic Havelis), Udaipur (city of lakes), Jodhpur (beautiful forts) and Jaipur (mix of different things, closest to Delhi so most frequented)
There are lot of other smaller cities and things to do. Happy to help more if needed. Rajasthan is amazing :)
Rajasthan is my home state in India. So, I am definitely a bit biased. You will enjoy it a lot. Look for local festivals whichever cities you decide to go. If you can add Kumbhalgarh fort, Ranakpur and Mount Abu to your itinerary, do by all means. Take a few layers but do not over pack winter clothes. It is a desert state so it gets cold at night and warm to hot during the day. Look for temperature ranges on google to help you decide what to pack.
You can also hire a taxi with a driver for 1-3 weeks that will take you to all the places and that way you don't have to rely on trains and planes. Do not expect much from in-city public transportation. That is why I suggest Taxi with a driver as the best option. A Lithuanian friend of mine and his wife did it this way and he found a lot of value in the taxi option. If you are going on a pre-packaged tour, then you are all set in terms of transportation.
I do not know how long you will be there but exercise caution with water and food. Eat in decent restaurants and stay in decent hotels. I usually avoid street food.
Hope this helps. Bring back some memories and share pics of sites and places.
I’m originally from Rajasthan. Definitely visit Jodhpur and Udaipur. If you have more time, try to go Jaisalmer as well
Thinking back to my backpacker days - meeting random travelers in pushkar, enjoying bhang lassi at a rooftop, giggling and discussing deep spiritual stuff, and watching the sun goes down the holy lake. It’s a place to chill and not do much.
