Upselling sometimes feels awkward or forced. How do you recommend items naturally without sounding pushy?

I think it is inherently pushy so that's why you feel awkward doing it. Best way I have trained myself to try and upsell is just to convince myself (and my employees) that you're just making sure they know about the options. You don't have to push it to the point of making everyone uncomfortable, just make suggestions so that the customer knows the full range of options.

Yeah that’s a tricky one. Agree with M1. Just tell the options and don’t look disappointed when the customer doesn’t choose items that are pricier.

Just make recommendations. “I see you’re having the steak, this red wine would go great with that”, or if they order a salad, to upsell a protein on it “would you like chicken, shrimp or steak with your salad today?”.
